The Red Herring Difference
You’ve been looking in all the wrong places. While everyone else is caught up in fast fashion cycles and inflated pricing, we’ve been quietly perfecting denim that works harder and lasts longer. Here’s what makes Red Herring worth the switch.

The Story Behind the Distraction
Look, Red Herring didn’t exactly start with a grand business plan or some corporate vision board. It was 2019 in a Portland garage where our founder was just… over it. Fed up with jeans that felt like a stiff uniform. He wanted denim that actually had a bit of mystery to it—something that threw people off the scent.
We make “misleading” denim. Not in a bad way, obviously. Think work pants that feel as soft as your favorite old sweats or dressy-looking raw selvedge that somehow doesn’t need six months of painful breaking in. We source the goods from a tiny mill in North Carolina that’s been weaving since 1947, then we add our own weird Oregon twists in small batches.
Our customers are the ones who actually notice the tiny details. The hidden selvedge tucked inside the cuff or back pockets shifted just a quarter-inch to make the silhouette look right. We aren’t out here trying to revolutionise the entire fashion industry. Honestly? We’re just making the pairs we actually wanted to wear ourselves—straightforward denim with a few secrets buried in the seams. to exist — straightforward denim with a few secrets worth discovering.

Customer Reviews
“The raw selvedge broke in perfectly after about two weeks. These aren’t your typical mall jeans – the weight and construction are on another level. Worth every penny for denim heads who get it.”

“Bought the high-rise straight leg in black and literally haven’t worn my other jeans since. The fit is spot-on without being restrictive, and they don’t bag out at the knees like my old pairs.”

“Finally, women’s jeans with actual functional pockets and proper denim weight. The boyfriend cut is relaxed but still structured. These are built to last, not fall apart after a season.”

Common Questions Answered
A proper fit feels snug but not restrictive, especially through the hips and thighs. Denim naturally relaxes about half a size after several wears, so initial tightness is normal. If buttons are difficult to fasten or sitting is uncomfortable, consider sizing up.
Turn garments inside out and wash in cold water on a gentle cycle. Air drying is recommended to prevent shrinkage and preserve the fabric’s structure. Machine drying on low heat is acceptable but may cause slight shrinking over time.
Standard shipping arrives within 5-7 business days. Express options deliver in 2-3 business days. International orders generally take 10-14 business days depending on customs processing times.
Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery for unworn items with tags attached. Exchanges for different sizes are processed free of charge. Refunds are issued to the original payment method within 5-7 business days of receipt.
Screen settings and lighting can affect how colors appear online. Denim also varies slightly between production batches. Most differences are minimal and become less noticeable after the first wash.
